David was born in Ciudad de México and has been directing commercials for more than 10 years for brands such as Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, Motorola, Mars, Pfizer, Volkswagen, Interjet, Televisa, etc.
The organic style, verité, of his work is rooted in his constant need of telling stories.
In 2005 he produced the documentary “Toro Negro“, a film that was awarded in several international film festivals such as San Sebastian, Toronto, Rotterdam, La Habana, and Cannes.
David started exploring narrative filmmaking directing “A Solas”, a short film that was released at Morelia Film Festival 2009. It won the Best Actor Award at the Short Shorts México Film Festival. In 2010, he wrote and directed “Héroes de Carne y Hueso”, a documentary TV series for Clio TV, production house owned by the historian Enrique Krauze.
In 2012-2013, David Romay co-directed and co-wrote “Gold”, a documentary film that tells the story of the Olympic soccer team that won the gold medal in London 2012. It probably was the most watched documentary in México.
In 2018, he released his first narrative feature film, “Detrás de la Montaña” -Behind the Mountain, whose been acclaimed by the critics.
