Martín Kalina is an Argentinean director, currently based in Barcelona, Spain. He conformed the directing duo Nico & Martín for eight years. After attending the Film Director program at Buenos Aires Film School Foundation, he started directing in advertising around 2004, and soon became one of the youngest promises in the up and coming Argentinian and Latin-American advertising industry.
In 2008 he opened his own production company, Primo, together with his associate Nicolás Perez Veiga. Primo came in 6th at the Palm d’Or ranking for Best Production Company at Cannes 2011, won Best Production company at the San Sebastian Festival in 2010 and twice at the Ojo de Iberoamerica, where Nico & Martin also won Best Director of Latin American in the last two editions of the festival. Their work has also received various of Regional and International awards including a Gold Lion at Cannes 2011, a Gold Medal at Montreaux in 2010, a Gold LIA in 2009, a Silver Lion in Cannes 2009, and the Outdoor Ambient Grand Prix in 2010.
During 2012 Martin wrote, produced and directed his first short film titled “Los Pálidos” which participated in important Film Festivals such as Locarno 2013 among others.
Along with “Los Palidos” came “Luca’s Thousand Miles” another short-documentary film for the Argentinean Advertising Council shot during the Thousand Miles race in Argentina. With this documentary he won a Gold Film Lion at 2014 Cannes FestivaI edition. In the past years, Martin has worked with the most outstanding agencies in Europe, South American and the Unites States.
Martin is presented by Primo in Argentina, Brazil, Chile & Spain and by D’avant-Garde Media in the US Hispanic market.
